Monferrato area in Piedmont

Camerano Casasco is a small village in the Basso Monferrato area, within the province of Asti, located 300 metres above sea level. It has a surface of 670 hectares and a population of about 500 inhabitants. The built-up area covers a wide hillside on the right of the stream Riale, a tributary of Borbore near Asti.
Interesting sites to visit:

  • the parish church of S. Lorenzo in Camerano, very close to the town hall, in the square named after Cesare Balbo. This ancient church, in its current baroque style, dates from the 18° century. Not far from the church it is possible to visit Palazzo Balbo, an imposing and magnificent building built during the 17° century over the foundations of the castle of Camerano, a property of the Asinari family which was destroyed by the French army during the 16° century. Cesare Balbo lived here between 1821 and 1834.
  • the church of S. Antonio, the Romanesque church of S. Bartolomeo, a small building encircled by woods.
  • and also the old municipal bakery, the church of SS. Pietro and Paolo and the mill.
