Tourism in Asti, Alba and Piedmont

During the year, many events took place in the area of Asti. From the beginning of January the local food-and-wine fairs provide the perfect opportunity to taste the specialties of the gatronomic tradition. During the spring we can mention the important events related to the wine: the festivals of Barbera in Castagnole Lanze, Agliano, Nizza Monferrato, Montegrosso.

And in september:

  • The “Douja d’Or Price” is a National Wine Contest for DOC and DOCG Wines organized during the month of September by the Chamber of Commerce of Asti, with the technical collaboration of the O.N.A.V. (Winetasters National Organisation).
  • During the Country Festivals about 40 local promoters of the Asti Province propose their gastronomic specialties, served with DOC (Controlled Denomination of Origin) wines of Asti. All this after the evocative parade along the town streets, with more than three thousand people with historical dresses, tractors, trade tools, representing the values and the traditions of this magnificent land.
  • The Palio of Asti is one of the most important event in Piemonte and the second Palio of Italy after the Palio of Siena. It takes place the second Sunday of September in the main square of Asti since the twelfth century; with 21 horses ridden without saddle by jockeys representing the 14 town boroughs and 7 municipalities of the province.

The Truffle fairs took place from October to December, in an ideal journey accros the whole province, starting in Montiglio Monferrato and then in Moncalvo, Montechiaro, Canelli, Asti, just to mention the most important ones. The "precious" tuber is obviously the main character of these fairs, together with other typical products such as mushrooms, honey and so on. Visitors can also take the opportunity to visit the villages and discover their cultural traditions.
